Hon. Justice Mabel Taiye Segun-Bello, presently serves as a Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, where she has distinguished herself through a record of an unwavering commitment to adjudication.
Her legal career spans diverse spheres of practice—civil litigation, corporate law, and judicial administration—reflecting a lifelong dedication to both the study and practice of law.
In the year 2004 She had a brief stay in the banking sector where she was a Credit Administration/ Loan Recovery Officer – of a Bank.
Prior to her appointment as a Judge, she worked as a Magistrate and District Court Judge with the FCT (Fed. Capital Territory); High Court of Justice Abuja, Nigeria for a period of 18 years. Where she rose to the position of a Chief Magistrate in the year 2015 and ultimately was appointed a Deputy Chief Registrar and the Director for Oaths of the FCT High Court Abuja in the year 2021.
As the Director for oaths, Justice Mabel T. Segun-Bello pioneered the First Ever Digital Affidavit Registry Management System (ARMS). The first ever to be successfully done in the of the Nigerian Judiciary.
Justice Mabel Segun-Bello is an Associate member of the– Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and an Associate member of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC)
Beyond the courtroom, Justice Mabel is also a Conference speaker and training facilitator. An advocate for professional mentorship, continuing legal education, and the empowerment of young lawyers. She has been a keynote speaker at several national and regional legal conferences, including leadership conferences where she consistently emphasizes the importance of mainstreaming mentorship and leadership in the institutions, and generational continuity in the legal profession.
Her philosophy rests upon the conviction that law must be both learned and lived, and that every lawyer bears a duty to guide the next. Through her writings, rulings, and mentorship initiatives, she continues to contribute meaningfully to the growth of Nigeria’s legal and judicial systems.
She is currently pursuing a postgraduate degree in International Economic Law, with a focus on the role of the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice in trade dispute resolution in West Africa.
